After unprecedented rainfall, educators and staff work together to reopen Dubai's private schools.

In the aftermath of historic rainfall in the UAE, private schools in Dubai faced significant challenges, with flooded auditoriums, collapsed false ceilings, and damaged infrastructure. Despite these obstacles, maintenance teams worked tirelessly, even overnight, to ensure that campuses were ready to resume face-to-face classes as soon as possible.

Some schools managed to reopen on Monday, while others opted for extended remote learning due to ongoing flooding in certain areas affecting staff and students. Rebecca Coulter, principal of Dubai British School Jumeirah Park, expressed gratitude for the dedicated efforts of facilities and cleaning teams in restoring the school despite severe flooding.

Preventive measures were taken across many private schools to safeguard campuses, including securing windows, relocating furniture, and protecting vulnerable areas like electrical rooms. Rajiv Raghavan, school operations manager at Gems Legacy School, highlighted the challenges faced by older buildings and praised the heroic efforts of maintenance teams in addressing leaks and damages.

Dino Varkey, group chief executive of Gems Education, commended the support teams for their exceptional response to the unprecedented challenges posed by the floods. Similarly, John Bell, principal at Bloom World Academy, credited the proactive measures taken by maintenance staff in preventing significant damage to the school.

Despite the resilience shown by school teams, Alison Baldwin, manager of school operations for Gems Education, acknowledged the superficial damages incurred, including ceiling tiles and leaks. While schools have reopened and are deemed safe, some areas may require additional repairs, such as playground resurfacing.

Overall, the collective efforts of school staff and maintenance teams have ensured the swift recovery of private schools in Dubai following the historic rainfall, underscoring their commitment to providing a safe learning environment for students.
