Acting on the orders of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is the Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Municipality has signed contracts worth AED 1.439 billion. These contracts are part of the major ‘Tasreef’ project, which focuses on improving and expanding Dubai’s rainwater drainage system.
This new work will add over 36 kilometers of new drainage pipes in different areas of the city. These improvements are meant to reduce flooding during heavy rains and make the current drainage systems work better and faster.

What is the Tasreef Project?
The Tasreef project is Dubai’s biggest rainwater drainage system plan. It is also one of the most efficient in the entire region. The aim is to create a modern, long-lasting system that can handle heavy rain for many years to come. It will serve important parts of Dubai like:
Nad Al Hamar
Areas near Dubai International Airport
Al Garhoud
Al Rashidiya
Al Quoz
Zabeel
Al Wasl
Jumeirah
Al Badaa
The project is designed not just to handle today’s needs but also to be ready for the future. It will help prevent floods, protect homes and businesses, and reduce how much it costs to run and maintain the drainage system.
Big Plans for the Future
Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, the Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, shared that these new projects mark an important step in making Dubai’s drainage system much stronger. The goal is to increase the drainage system’s capacity by 700% over the next 100 years. That means it will be able to handle seven times more water than it can today.
He explained that the Tasreef project is not only about building new pipes—it’s also about planning smartly for Dubai’s future. The project is expected to save 20% on building and maintenance costs and make the system last much longer.
A Long-Term Investment
The full Tasreef project is expected to cost around AED 30 billion. It is the largest project of its kind in Dubai and has been planned in a way that it can be expanded over the next century if needed. The purpose is to make Dubai’s infrastructure one of the strongest, most advanced, and most ready for the future in the whole world.
This project will help make Dubai a more comfortable, safe, and attractive city for everyone—residents, businesses, and visitors.
