Abu Dhabi is set to inspire the next generation of artificial intelligence (AI) experts through a series of innovative summer camps organized by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK). These camps, designed for high school students from grades 9 to 12, aim to provide up to 2,400 students with in-depth knowledge of generative AI, its applications, and related career opportunities.
Program Details:
The summer camps will offer a range of programs tailored to different learning preferences. The primary focus will be on generative AI and prompt engineering, with students receiving practical training and insights into real-life applications.
Four-Week Boot Camp:
In collaboration with 42 Abu Dhabi, ADEK will host a Generative AI and Prompt Engineering Bootcamp over four consecutive weeks. This boot camp will be conducted in two formats to accommodate various learning styles. One format will involve a full-day boot camp held across six schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, providing students with a comprehensive experience in AI. This intensive session will include three directed training modules within a single day, offering hands-on experience with beginner-friendly AI tools.

The alternative format will consist of two-hour sessions, held in partnership with Majalis Abu Dhabi at the Citizens and Community Affairs Office of the Presidential Court. These sessions will be hosted in 28 locations across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, and are specifically tailored for Emirati students, providing a focused learning opportunity.
Five-Day Program:
Additionally, a five-day summer program will be conducted in collaboration with MBZUAI, a leading research-focused university specializing in AI. This program, aimed at grade 11 students, will offer insights into various AI applications, including film production, generative AI, responsible AI, and a sustainability research project. The workshops will be led by MBZUAI’s esteemed faculty, alumni, students, and staff, ensuring a high-quality educational experience.
AI Olympiad Preparation:
ADEK is also preparing four Emirati students for the inaugural International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI). This prestigious competition, targeting high school students passionate about AI, will be held in Bulgaria, concluding on August 15. Two students from MBZUAI will mentor the team, providing guidance and support as they compete in the event.
Mubarak Hamad Al Mheiri, ADEK Undersecretary, emphasized the department’s commitment to equipping the youth with the skills necessary for the evolving AI landscape. “We are dedicated to preparing a generation ready for the future of AI. The AI Summer Programmes will empower young minds to drive meaningful global change. By partnering with leading institutions like 42 Abu Dhabi and MBZUAI, we ensure that Abu Dhabi’s youth receive top-tier AI training,” said Al Mheiri.
Through these initiatives, Abu Dhabi aims to foster a new generation of AI professionals, providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to excel in this rapidly advancing field.
