The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has launched a new smart system to better manage and monitor waste across Abu Dhabi. This important step is aimed at protecting the environment and making sure that all waste activities in the emirate follow the proper rules and standards. The goal is to support a cleaner, safer future and protect the region’s natural resources.

This new system brings together three important parts. First is a system for inspecting and patrolling waste management activities. Second is a safety system that keeps track of the health and safety of workers in the waste sector. Third is an electronic system that follows the journey of waste from one place to another. These parts work together to help waste companies and inspectors do their jobs more efficiently.

The system was built using careful planning and follows clear steps to check all waste-related activities—like collecting, moving, treating, and storing waste. It also helps find current problems in the waste system and offers lessons to improve future work.

Eng. Salem Mubarak Al Breiki, Director of the Waste Management Division at EAD, said this new system is a major move forward. It helps the agency meet its big goals and strengthens how it works with other organizations. This teamwork allows different groups to share knowledge, improve regulations, and come up with better ways of doing things. He said it also gives EAD’s employees better tools and skills, helping them cover more areas when they inspect and monitor waste sites.

He added that the system uses smart technology like artificial intelligence to collect and understand data. This helps EAD choose the best and most eco-friendly solutions.

The new system is also supported by important rules and tools, like the Integrated Waste Management Regulation and the Waste Classification System. These tools make sure that all waste-related businesses follow the law and operate properly.

EAD will also prepare field inspection plans and regularly check licensed companies that handle, move, and treat waste. The inspections will now reach more remote areas to stop illegal dumping and other harmful practices. In the future, the agency will also address problems caused by industries that produce large amounts of waste.

This smart and connected system shows Abu Dhabi’s commitment to a cleaner environment and a sustainable way of managing waste for the years to come.
