The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre has made a new way to check how people in Abu Dhabi use and feel close to the Arabic language. This new step came after the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said that the year 2025 will be called the “Year of Community.”

The new way is called the Relationship Strength with Arabic Language Index. It checks how often people use Arabic in speaking, reading, writing, and online chatting. It also looks at how families talk in Arabic at home, especially with their children. It even checks how Arabic is used in schools, workplaces, and by different groups.

This index will help the Centre see how strong the link is between people and the Arabic language. It gives a score to show if someone uses Arabic a lot or not much. These scores will help leaders make plans to help more people enjoy and use Arabic in daily life.

The Centre is also doing many things to make Arabic strong. They are printing books, making fun and smart Arabic content, helping young people learn, and holding book fairs, story festivals, and prize shows.

Dr. Ali bin Tamim, the leader of the Language Centre, said that this new index follows the UAE’s dream of having a strong and happy society. He said Arabic is very important because it shows the culture and history of the country. He also said that the Centre wants all people—citizens, visitors, young and old, Arabic speakers and non-speakers—to feel close to Arabic.

The Centre will use this index to check the language link in all parts of Abu Dhabi. It will look at different age groups and people from different places. The scores will go from very strong Arabic use to very low or no Arabic use. The main goal is to make this bond stronger step by step.

At the same time, the Centre shared another study that started in 2021. It is called the Arabic Language Perception Index. This study asked more than 6,000 people aged 15 and above in Abu Dhabi about what they think of Arabic and English. People said Arabic is best when it comes to beauty, art, and deep feelings. They also said Arabic connects more to history and culture. But they felt English is better for school, science, and learning.

Dr. Ali said it is normal for people to feel proud of their own language. But he also said we must study how these feelings change over time. He wants to use this to help Arabic grow in school subjects, books, science, and online tools.

He added that the Centre will keep working on ideas and programs for all parts of the community. They want Arabic to stay strong and be used more in writing, speaking, and smart new technology. They also want to support research to help Arabic grow and shine in today’s world.
