The committee has recently concluded its evaluation process, narrowing down over 1,000 entries to 150 shortlisted poets. These poets will participate in a series of competitive tests in October 2024 to determine the final 20 contestants for the live episodes in December 2024.
This season stands out for its record number of applicants from 33 countries, including 14 non-Arab nations, highlighting the competition's expanding global reach. Past editions have seen significant participation from poets representing diverse backgrounds, enhancing the visibility of Arabic poetry on the world stage.
The Prince of Poets title has been awarded to poets from seven Arab countries over ten seasons, with Saudi Arabian poets dominating previous competitions. The competition rewards the first-place winner with AED 1 million, a traditional Poetry Burda cloak, and a ring representing the title of Emir. The second and third place winners also receive substantial cash prizes.
Since its inception, the competition has been instrumental in promoting and publishing the works of poets, solidifying its status as a cornerstone of the Arabic literary scene. For more details on the upcoming season, visit the official Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority website.
