In a significant advancement for timekeeping in the UAE, the UAE Official Time reference clock was officially launched in the presence of His Excellency Saeed Al Mheiri, Executive Director of the Emirates Metrology Institute (EMI). This event took place at the EMI, which operates under the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC).

The newly introduced UAE Official Time is recognized as a state-of-the-art model for precise time measurement. Utilizing a caesium clock, the system’s frequency is based on the stable properties of the caesium atom, providing a highly reliable standard for measuring time. This level of precision is critical for various applications, including scientific research, telecommunications, and global positioning systems.

As part of its role in enhancing the accuracy of timekeeping, EMI contributes to the International Atomic Time (TAI), which plays a crucial role in refining Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) within the UAE. This collaboration ensures that the UAE's timekeeping aligns with global standards, thus supporting both national and international operations.

The Emirates Metrology Institute has also established the UAE time scale (UTC-UAE) and provides time synchronization services to its strategic clients, including high-frequency calibration services. This proactive approach to time accuracy helps mitigate any risks associated with interference from satellite systems, as the institute maintains the only time standard in the country that is directly linked to UTC.

EMI is actively involved in international efforts to redefine the global time standard (seconds) and works closely with global experts to enhance the capabilities of national personnel in the field of time and frequency measurement. This partnership not only elevates the UAE’s standing in the global arena but also nurtures local expertise.

His Excellency Saeed Al Mheiri commented on the launch, stating, “The introduction of the UAE Official Time represents a strategic step towards enhancing the accuracy of time measurements in the country. We are committed to developing precise standards that support various sectors, thereby contributing to the UAE's position as a leading center for quality and conformity worldwide. This initiative will also advance the UAE's goals of innovation and progress across multiple fields."

He further emphasized the importance of the reference clock, stating, “We take pride in launching this reference clock, which will significantly improve time accuracy in the UAE. Our investment in modern time measurement technologies reflects our dedication to achieving the highest quality standards. We look forward to collaborating with our international partners to deliver the best services in this vital area.”
