The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) noted a significant increase in participation, with a 13.7% rise compared to the previous year. Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Secretary General of MBRGI, underscored the initiative's alignment with Sheikh Mohammed's vision for an Arab knowledge renaissance through reading.
The Arab Reading Challenge, organized under MBRGI, commenced its final country-level qualifying rounds with over 28 million students. Participants read and summarized content from 50 books to compete at class, school, and country levels. Exceptional reading champions and schools are selected based on rigorous criteria, culminating in the selection of top champions for the final stage.
The Arab Reading Champion receives a Dh500,000 award to support their knowledge journey, while the outstanding school and supervisor are also recognized with Dh1 million and Dh300,000 awards, respectively. Additionally, a Dh100,000 award is presented to the Community champion, fostering reading habits among Arabs abroad and non-Arab learners of Arabic.
Beyond fostering a love for reading, the challenge aims to enhance critical, analytical, and creative skills among youth. By exposing participants to diverse cultures, it promotes tolerance, coexistence, and cultural dialogue.
The Arab Reading Challenge has witnessed exponential growth since its inception in 2015, attracting millions of students annually. This year's remarkable participation underscores the initiative's impact in nurturing a generation of avid readers and lifelong learners.
