LONDON — A private funeral was held on Saturday for Bebe King, the 6-year-old girl tragically killed during a stabbing spree at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport on July 29. Bebe was the second victim among three young girls to be laid to rest following the attack, which led to extensive rioting across the UK.
The attack, carried out by a teenage suspect, also injured ten others, including two adults. In the wake of the tragedy, misinformation spread by far-right groups falsely identified the suspect as a Muslim asylum seeker, which ignited a wave of violence and unrest.
Bebe’s family, in a statement released a week prior, described her as a spirited child “full of joy, light, and love.” Her parents, Lauren and Ben King, along with her older sister Genie, expressed their profound grief and sought solace in the outpouring of love from those who knew Bebe. “Our hearts are broken, but we find some comfort in knowing that Bebe was so deeply loved by all who knew her,” they said. They requested privacy for the funeral and asked that attendees wear bright clothing, with supporters invited to light candles in her memory.

Bebe King, Alice da Silva Aguiar, 9, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, were all victims of the stabbing attack. The funeral for Alice da Silva Aguiar, described by her family as a “perfect dream child,” took place the previous Sunday. During her service, Chief Merseyside Police Constable Serena Kennedy delivered a message from Aguiar’s parents urging an end to the violence and unrest.
The stabbing led to significant upheaval in Southport, where a peaceful vigil was followed by violent riots. Mobs targeted mosques, clashed with police, and engaged in destructive acts, including setting fire to a police van. The unrest spread to London, Belfast, and other cities, resulting in widespread looting and attacks on asylum seeker accommodations.
Over 1,000 people have been arrested in connection with the riots, with around 100 individuals receiving prison sentences of up to six years. The violence largely subsided on August 7, when planned protests by far-right groups failed to materialize and were replaced by large anti-racism demonstrations.
