Police said that six people died right there at the accident spot. The other three passengers were seriously hurt and are now being treated at the Raisen District Hospital.
All of them were returning from Patna, Bihar. They had gone there to attend a wedding. In fact, the bride and groom—Deepak Chopra and Sangeeta—were in the car and both got badly injured.
Sultanpur police officer Santosh Raghuvanshi told the media that all the people in the car were from Indore. However, police are still confirming more details about them.
At first, it was difficult to contact the families of the victims because the people who died could not speak anymore, and the three who were alive were too injured to talk.
Among those who died were a mother and her two-year-old daughter. The little girl’s name was Tasvi, also lovingly called Chinu, and her mother was Sarita. The driver of the SUV, Saurabh Sharma, also died in the crash.
Police think that the driver may have fallen asleep while driving. He had been driving for a long time without rest.
The group had traveled to Supaul, Bihar for the wedding and were going back to Indore when the accident happened.
The SUV crashed straight into the side wall of the road. Police checked the area and found that there were no sharp turns, animals, or other vehicles involved. This means nothing on the road caused the accident.
All six people who died have been taken to the hospital morgue. Their families have been informed. Once the families confirm their identities, the bodies will go for post-mortem.
The six people who died are:
Mohanlal Kuril
Chanda Devi
Narendra
Sarita
Tasvi (Chinu)
Saurabh Sharma (driver)
The three injured people are:
Deepak Chopra (groom)
Sangeeta (bride)
Ravi Kholwal
This is a heartbreaking incident, and the entire community is in shock. The police are still investigating to understand how this happened and make sure such accidents can be prevented in the future.
