In 2023, Louvre Abu Dhabi greeted more than 1.2 million visitors. Fast forward to March 19, 2024, and the museum marked a monumental achievement, exceeding five million visitors since its grand opening. This milestone underscores its position as an unrivaled cultural landmark of global significance.
The museum's success can be attributed to a combination of factors. Notable among these are the compelling exhibitions that complement the permanent collection, an uptick in visits to the Children’s Museum, and a surge in engagement with the educational programs offered by Louvre Abu Dhabi. Moreover, the museum's efforts to organize various outdoor activities and activations within its premises have also contributed significantly, accounting for 10 percent of the total visitor count.
International visitors made up a significant portion of the foot traffic, comprising 72 percent of the total visitors. Key growth markets such as Russia, India, France, the USA, China, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, and the UK contributed substantially to this influx. The remaining 28 percent consisted of residents of the UAE. Additionally, the museum hosted more than 500 officials and dignitaries, including Heads of State, ministers, ambassadors, internationally recognized artists, and celebrities, further solidifying its global appeal.
The impact of Louvre Abu Dhabi on the cultural landscape was acknowledged by Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism — Abu Dhabi. He expressed pride in the museum's growing influence, citing its exceptional collection, special exhibitions, and community programs.
Manuel Rabaté, Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi, emphasized the museum's role in showcasing Abu Dhabi's rich and diverse cultural heritage. He highlighted the power of collaboration and intercultural dialogue in weaving together the stories of diverse civilizations and artistic traditions. Rabaté underscored the museum's commitment to excellence in the global cultural landscape, evident in the growing interest from visitors and the remarkable milestone achieved.
