A 5.5-magnitude earthquake hit areas near Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Saturday afternoon at 12:30 pm, according to Pakistan's National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC).
The earthquake's epicenter was located 60 km northwest of Rawalpindi, at a shallow depth of just 12 km. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that the quake was slightly weaker, measuring 5.0 in magnitude and occurring at a deeper depth of 39 km.

People in the surrounding areas, including parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, also felt the tremors. Earlier, another earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3 struck the border area between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
