53-Year-Old Murders Wife, Directs Daughter to Discover Her Bloodied Body

In a tragic and chilling case, a 53-year-old man, Joe Lo Bianco, has been convicted of murdering his wife, Kaliopi Roumeliotis, and leading their daughter to her mother’s bloodied body. The horrific incident unfolded on November 30, 2022, when Lo Bianco brutally attacked Roumeliotis in their garage and then directed their young daughter to find her mother’s lifeless body after she returned from school.

Lo Bianco initially tried to portray the murder as an accident. He claimed that Roumeliotis had tripped and hit her head on a metal car ramp, which he used to stage the scene. Lo Bianco’s defense was that his actions were not premeditated but rather a “heat of the moment” reaction. However, this claim was contradicted by the facts presented in court.

Lo Bianco ambushed Roumeliotis, striking her repeatedly with a metal ramp before positioning it near her head to suggest an accidental death. He then concealed his bloodied clothing in the garage before going next door to his in-laws. While waiting for his daughter to return from school, he engaged in casual conversation with them. When she arrived, he directed her to the garage, where she discovered the gruesome scene and called for help.

Emergency services were alerted, and Roumeliotis’ family rushed to the scene. Her sister-in-law performed CPR until paramedics arrived, but it was too late—Roumeliotis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lo Bianco initially maintained his innocence but later confessed to the police and pleaded guilty in the Victorian Supreme Court. His defense attorney, Moya O’Brien, argued that the attack was impulsive and not premeditated, stating that Lo Bianco felt remorseful and understood he had forfeited any chance of a relationship with his daughter.

Prosecutor Nanette Rogers described the murder as “an unprovoked, vicious and sustained attack,” pointing out that Lo Bianco took deliberate steps to conceal his crime. She characterized his actions as calculated and rational, rather than impulsive.

In a victim impact statement read by her uncle, Arthur Roumeliotis, the couple’s daughter expressed profound anguish over the loss of her mother. The 12-year-old girl described her mother’s love as “like being in a hug forever” and lamented the irreparable damage caused by her father’s actions. “What you did has left me with scars that will never heal,” the statement read.

Arthur Roumeliotis also spoke about the devastating impact of the loss on the family, lamenting that his sister-in-law would not see her daughter grow up and lamenting the unfairness of her untimely death. He highlighted that Roumeliotis still had much life left to live.

The court also revealed that Lo Bianco and Roumeliotis had frequently argued over financial issues, particularly after Lo Bianco lost his job during the pandemic due to his refusal to take the COVID-19 vaccine. This tension was reportedly exacerbated on the day of the murder.
