In the early hours of Friday, a tragic landslide struck near the Pawan Hans helipad in Fata, Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand, resulting in the deaths of four Nepalese workers. The workers were buried under debris from the landslide, which occurred amidst heavy rain. The victims were residing in a camp located close to the helipad.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was alerted to the incident at 1:37 a.m. by the District Control Room in Rudraprayag. An SDRF team, led by Inspector Karn Singh, immediately embarked on a rescue mission. However, access to the site was severely hindered due to the blockage of the Doliya Devi road, necessitating a trek of over two kilometers to reach the affected area.
Upon arrival, the rescue team faced significant challenges, as heavy rains rendered it impossible for a JCB machine to operate. Consequently, the SDRF personnel resorted to manual excavation, digging through the debris to locate the trapped individuals. Despite their efforts, the team managed to recover the bodies of the four workers, who have been identified as Tul Bahadur, Purna Nepali, Kishna Parihar, and Chiku Bura.

The recovered bodies were subsequently handed over to the district police. The Rudraprayag administration confirmed that the deceased were all Nepalese nationals working in the region.
This incident adds to the ongoing crisis in Uttarakhand, where severe rainfall has caused significant disruption. According to data from the Uttarakhand State Emergency Operations Centre, since June 15, the state has witnessed 61 fatalities, 35 injuries, and two individuals are reported missing due to weather-related disasters. The Meteorology Department has forecasted continued heavy rainfall for the next week, exacerbating the already dire conditions in the region.
