350+ Passengers Caught with Fake Passports at Dubai Airport

In a recent revelation by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai, an alarming statistic has come to light regarding the prevalence of fraudulent passports among incoming passengers at Dubai International Airport (DXB). Between January and March of this year alone, over 350 individuals were apprehended attempting to enter the emirate with counterfeit travel documents. This marks a concerning trend, as it represents a slight uptick from the previous year's figures.

The meticulous scrutiny conducted by GDRFA personnel unearthed a total of 366 cases of forged passports in the initial quarter of 2024, compared to 355 during the same period in the preceding year. Such findings underscore the persistence of fraudulent activities aimed at circumventing immigration protocols and gaining unauthorized entry into Dubai.

A deeper analysis reveals the comprehensive measures undertaken by GDRFA to combat this pervasive issue. Aqil Ahmad Alnajjar, a consultant at the Document Examination Centre, elucidated on the sophisticated mechanisms deployed at Dubai Airport's Terminal 1. He elucidated that every passport control counter is furnished with an advanced detection apparatus known as Retro Check. This cutting-edge technology serves as a formidable barrier against the infiltration of fraudulent passports, empowering immigration officers to meticulously scrutinize and identify suspect documents with precision.

Upon flagging a dubious passport, vigilant officers promptly dispatch it to the Document Examination Centre for meticulous verification. This strategic collaboration between frontline personnel and state-of-the-art technology exemplifies GDRFA's unwavering commitment to upholding the integrity of immigration processes and safeguarding the security of Dubai.

The gravity of this issue is further underscored by historical data, which indicates that last year alone, a staggering 16,127 documents were scrutinized, revealing 1,232 instances of forgery. Moreover, 443 cases were referred to the public prosecution for further legal action, highlighting the severity with which such transgressions are addressed.

In essence, the revelation of over 350 fraudulent passports intercepted within a mere three months underscores the pressing need for continued vigilance and robust countermeasures against illicit activities aimed at compromising national security and integrity. Through sustained efforts and collaborative initiatives, GDRFA endeavors to fortify the emirate's borders and preserve its reputation as a beacon of safety and prosperity in the global arena.
