Legal measures have been initiated against 99 government-provided housing units in Abu Dhabi, following a campaign that aimed to address violations in the housing sector. The campaign, conducted jointly by the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority (ADHA) and the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), targeted 11,340 government-provided housing units across various areas in Abu Dhabi.
Results from the campaign revealed that out of the total units surveyed, 2,694 were found to be in violation of government-provided housing regulations. These violations were distributed as follows: 1,552 units in Abu Dhabi city, 1,009 in Al Ain city, and 133 in the Al Dhafra region.
As part of the campaign, housing units were assessed based on regulations outlined in Law No. 8 of 2019 concerning the Regulation of Occupancy of Properties and Residential Units in Abu Dhabi. The primary objectives of the campaign were to raise awareness among the community regarding the consequences of housing unit misuse or non-utilization and to educate individuals about regulations, prerequisites, and penalties related to renting housing grants.
Since the inception of the campaign, 2,595 housing units have rectified their status by addressing the identified violations. However, 99 housing units failed to comply within the stipulated warning period, leading to the initiation of legal measures against them.
ADHA reaffirms its commitment to providing adequate and sustainable housing solutions tailored to the needs of Abu Dhabi residents. The authority ensures compliance with regulations governing housing unit occupancy and closely monitors their utilization. Additionally, ADHA is dedicated to providing maintenance solutions to uphold the overall condition of housing units, in line with the objectives of the Government of Abu Dhabi to foster vibrant residential communities that prioritize public safety and provide a conducive environment.
The DMT, in coordination with relevant government entities, has taken necessary legal measures against the housing units that have not corrected their violations or adhered to established procedures and regulations.
Moving forward, DMT has announced plans for the second phase of the inspection campaign, which will focus on all government-provided housing units within the emirate. This upcoming phase, scheduled to begin in May, demonstrates the ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with regulations and maintain the integrity of government-built housing.
