The attack on RG Kar Hospital occurred amidst ongoing protests and unrest following the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College on August 9. The tragic event has sparked widespread demonstrations within the medical community and beyond.

In response to the violence and ongoing tensions, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has declared a nationwide strike. The strike will begin at 6 am on Saturday, August 17, and continue until 6 am on Sunday, August 18, with doctors from modern medicine participating across the country.

The unrest reflects broader concerns within the medical community and has intensified the calls for justice and improved safety measures following the recent tragic incident.
