Saudi Arabia’s state anti-corruption watchdog, the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), has revealed that it apprehended 166 government employees suspected of involvement in graft last month. This move comes as part of the kingdom's ongoing efforts to combat corruption.
According to Nazaha, a total of 1,790 monitoring tours were conducted in April, during which 268 individuals were interrogated. These suspects include employees from various government ministries and departments, such as interior, defense, national guard, justice, human resources, social development, and municipal affairs.
Out of the interrogated individuals, 166 were arrested on suspicion of bribery, job exploitation, money laundering, and forgery. Some of them were subsequently released on bail, pending further investigation.

The suspects are currently undergoing procedural measures before being formally referred to trial for prosecution.
In recent years, Saudi Arabia has intensified its anti-corruption efforts, leading to the arrest and interrogation of numerous state employees and businessmen over allegations of corruption and misuse of public funds.
In a high-profile case in 2017, dozens of royals, government officials, and business leaders were detained in a luxury hotel in Riyadh as part of a sweeping anti-corruption crackdown.
Last year, the kingdom uncovered a major corruption scheme involving diplomats, security personnel, and expatriates engaged in illegal labor visa trading.
Nazaha disclosed the identities of 13 suspects implicated in this case, including two diplomats from the Saudi embassy in Bangladesh. The investigation began with the arrest of two Interior Ministry employees for coercing a resident into signing a financial commitment favoring a Palestinian investor.
Subsequent inquiries revealed a network of Bangladeshi residents involved in visa trading, in collaboration with embassy staff. During raids on their residences, authorities seized millions in currency, gold, and luxury vehicles believed to be proceeds from visa sales.
