At least 11 people, including three children, lost their lives in New Delhi on Saturday after a residential building collapsed on the outskirts of the city. The incident took place in the early hours in a northeastern area of the capital, which mainly houses migrant workers. Rescue teams worked throughout the day, searching through the rubble for survivors.
According to reports, 11 people were confirmed dead, while 11 others were rescued and taken to the hospital. Five of the survivors are still being treated, and their condition is being monitored closely.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sadness over the tragedy. He sent his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wished for the quick recovery of the injured. President Droupadi Murmu, who lives just 20 kilometers from the site, also expressed her sorrow, saying the deaths of so many, including women and children, was deeply upsetting.
This tragic incident comes after Modi's party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), recently won the Delhi state elections for the first time in nearly 30 years.
The exact cause of the building collapse is still unknown. However, Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra blamed corruption in the municipal government, which is run by a rival political party, for the situation. He pointed out that illegal buildings were being constructed freely and called for a survey of all such structures. He emphasized that strict actions should be taken against those involved in such activities.
Local media reported that the building, which was four stories tall, collapsed suddenly, much like a stack of cards falling down.
Building collapses are unfortunately common in India, especially in large cities. Many of the buildings involved in these accidents are illegal structures that often house migrant workers.
