Dubai is preparing for an unforgettable evening of music and tradition as world-famous qawwali singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will take the stage at the Coca-Cola Arena on August 30, 2025. The concert will be extra special because, for the first time ever, he will be joined by his son Shahzaman Ali Khan, marking the beginning of a new musical chapter for their family’s centuries-old legacy.
The event is being described as more than just a concert. It is a historic generational moment, where father and son will come together to celebrate music, culture, and emotions that connect millions of fans across the world.
Rahat’s Excitement About Performing with His Son
Speaking about the performance, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan said he is deeply excited to share the stage with his son:
“This is a very special show for me. Shahzaman will not just appear on stage, but he will have his own segment to perform, to present his own ideas, and to connect with the audience in his own way. For me as a father, this is a very proud moment.”
While Shahzaman has accompanied his father before, this is the first time he will perform independently in front of a large international crowd. Audiences will see a fresh blend of traditional qawwali and modern interpretations, reflecting both the heritage of the Khan family and the creativity of a new generation.
Why Dubai Holds a Special Place
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has performed many times around the world, but he calls Dubai a unique stage that feels like home.
He explained that Dubai is a hub for global audiences, especially for fans from South Asia — India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. In Dubai, people from different backgrounds come together to celebrate culture, which creates a peaceful and powerful environment for music.
According to him, every artist wants to perform in Dubai because the city makes shows grand, memorable, and full of energy.

Passing the Torch of a Legendary Legacy
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan carries the musical legacy of his late uncle, the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, who introduced qawwali to international audiences. Rahat himself has been considered the torchbearer of that tradition. Now, he feels it is time to let his son step into the spotlight.
He said:
“Being a father, it makes me proud to see Shahzaman working hard and being respected as a young artist. People remember Nusrat Sahab as an example, and I am happy that Shahzaman is carrying forward this family’s music.”
For Shahzaman, the journey is not easy. While the new generation has digital tools and global exposure, Rahat believes this can also be dangerous. He continues to teach his son the traditional qawwalis of the family, many of which go back 250 to 600 years.
Advice From Father to Son
When asked what advice he gives to Shahzaman, Rahat responded with words he himself followed throughout his career:
* Respect your seniors.
* Never speak badly about anyone.
* Ignore people who spread negativity.
He believes these values are just as important as musical training in shaping a great artist.
Interestingly, Rahat also said that when he trains Shahzaman, their bond is not father and son, but teacher and student. This ensures discipline, focus, and respect for the art.
Blending Tradition with Today’s Audience
Qawwali is one of the oldest forms of devotional music in South Asia, but Rahat believes it must adapt to different audiences without losing its roots.
For example, in the UK, audiences enjoy traditional qawwalis that they have been listening to for generations. In the UAE, however, fans love a mix of qawwali, Bollywood songs, and TV drama music. This is why the set list for Dubai will combine both — soulful qawwalis and popular songs that connect with the audience.
Shahzaman’s performance will also carry this balance — respect for tradition while exploring new ideas.
Remembering Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
When asked what Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan would have said if he were alive to see this father-son concert, Rahat replied emotionally:
“He would have been very happy. I don’t think I can teach Shahzaman what Nusrat Sahab could have taught, but I always feel his presence. His soul and blessings are with us.”
What Fans Can Expect in Dubai
The August 30 concert promises to be more than just a show — it will be a musical journey across generations. Fans can expect:
* A showcase of classic qawwalis loved worldwide.
* A fresh performance by Shahzaman Ali Khan, marking his big debut.
* A tribute to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
* A powerful celebration of family, tradition, and modern artistry.
For audiences in Dubai, this will be an unmissable evening, combining history and emotion in the most unique way possible.
