Micah Parsons, one of the most dominant young defenders in American football, is starting a brand-new chapter in his career. After spending four incredible seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Parsons has now joined the Green Bay Packers in a blockbuster move that has already captured the attention of fans across the NFL.
At Penn State, where his journey to stardom began, Parsons wore jersey number 11. It became a special number for him, one that fans closely connected with his rise. When he entered the NFL with the Cowboys, he kept the same number on his back. Over just four seasons in Dallas, Parsons built a reputation as one of the most feared pass rushers in the league, collecting a remarkable 52.5 sacks. That number alone placed him among the best defenders of his generation.
However, his switch to the Packers comes with a change that fans might find surprising. Wide receiver Jayden Reed already owns the No. 11 jersey in Green Bay, meaning Parsons had to make a tough decision. Rather than fight for the number, he looked at other options and decided on something completely new.

On Friday, at his official introductory press conference in Green Bay, Parsons proudly announced:
“I’m going with No. 1.”
That choice carries historic weight for the Packers. The last time a player wore the No. 1 jersey for Green Bay was nearly 100 years ago. The only man to ever wear it before Parsons was Curly Lambeau, the legendary player, coach, and founder of the Packers. Lambeau wore the number during the 1925 and 1926 seasons, and the team’s stadium — Lambeau Field — is famously named after him.
By choosing No. 1, Parsons isn’t just starting a new chapter — he is linking himself to one of the deepest traditions in NFL history. For fans, it feels like more than a jersey number. It symbolizes a fresh beginning and a chance for Parsons to carve out his legacy in Green Bay.
Interestingly, Parsons had earlier asked his fans on social media whether he should pick No. 0 or No. 1. Both were bold, clean numbers that carry their own meaning. While he did not reveal exactly why he settled on No. 1, it appears the history behind the jersey, along with the chance to be the first in nearly a century to wear it, may have influenced him.
For Green Bay supporters, this is an exciting twist. Parsons arrives not only as a defensive superstar but also as a player ready to embrace the Packers’ traditions. His arrival signals a major boost for the team’s defense, which has been looking for a powerful leader capable of changing games.
The Packers are hopeful that Parsons’ talent will help them return to their winning ways and possibly compete for championships in the coming seasons. Fans across Wisconsin and beyond will now watch closely to see how the young star adapts in his new uniform, carrying not just the number 1 on his chest, but also the responsibility of being the face of the defense.
